Overview

Dowdens Pumping and Water Treatment have successfully supplied, installed and commissioned a 48,000L sewerage system for St Catherines Primary School in Proserpine, Queensland.

The Problem

St Catherine Primary School has been increasing in its numbers over the past couple of years and therefore needed a larger scale and updated sewage system. The water table could have been an issue as it sits 1.5 m below the surface; however, the Dowdens team came up with a great solution.

Our Solution

Dowdens Pumping and Water Treatment, in conjunction with the project’s designers, redesigned the original project scope of 3 x 16,000L concrete tanks sitting at 3.5m deep with pour in situ concrete bases. By changing to a 48,000L Aquatec Emergency Storage Vessel, the project avoided an expensive excavation and dewatering of the tank pit where the water table sits at 1.5m below the surface.

The tank is a 1.85m diameter x 18m long fibreglass tank weighing less than 2 Tonnes. Due to the smaller tank diameter, the site excavation only needed to be 2.3m deep rather than the original 3.8m. The tank was held down by an in-house engineered concrete ballast which was poured on top of the tank.
