Overview
Dowdens were appointed by a local building contractor awarded the tender to complete the upgrade to the Moranbah town square precinct. The project aims to rejuvenate and beautify the space with aesthetically pleasing landscaping, raised feature garden, pergolas, shade, seating, water features and ambient lighting.
The project will benefit the public and nearby businesses by making a relaxing space available that will be utilised throughout the year. The irrigation system was integral to this package to ensure that the area sustained the tropical garden aspects and atmosphere for venue users.
The Problem
Moranbah Town Square was a popular visited hub for locals and travelling visitors to Moranbah. Boasting a menagerie of shopping outlets and cuisine, the corner location of the Town Square needed more attention and dramatically required a facelift.
With the children’s playground located alongside, the Isaac Regional Council project team created the idea to have a tropical garden paradise constructed that would open the area as an attraction for residents and visitors to the township.
Our Solution
Our Dowdens professional Irrigation certified designer Alan Pickering put his wealth of knowledge to work and completed an irrigation design suited for the small turf and garden areas. Alan focused on a series of fogger spray jets to create an atmosphere similar to the lower canopy of a rainforest.

Project Design Philosophy
Dowdens Pumping & Water Treatment design philosophy for this project was:
- Cost-Effectiveness for new system versus continued maintenance needs to upkeep the old irrigation system.
- Innovation and current best practices to align with the newly designed architecture.
- Ease of Installation and maintenance.
- An effective Irrigation system that was tied into the existing irrigation controller and network.
- Irrigation System Reliability to ensure adequate irrigation precipitation rates across the garden and turf areas.
- The irrigation will provide a comfortable environment within the space for visitors to enjoy, particularly throughout the warmer and dryer months of the year.
